Summary

A Layout Person – Construction Surveyor is part of the team implementing and overseeing the different markers (benchmarks, elevations, etc.) of formwork used in concrete slabs, walls, and structural elements. This role involves planning daily tasks as it will guide the construction of a new building or structure.


Job responsibilites

  • Surveyors work with elements of mathematics (geometry and trigonometry), architectural & structural drawings and the National Building Code of
  • Surveyors will also provide construction workers with benchmarks on site, prescribe elevation for different formwork height and level forms already in
  • Install pre-manufactured anchors and fabricate custom templates based on drawings provided by the General Contractor.
  • Track and keep record of all contractual changes (RFI, FCR and work orders), update drawings on site with appropriate contract changes and
  • Surveyors will determine the placement of retaining walls, columns, and floor
  • Assist carpenters, layout helpers and support the team leader as
  • Climb stairs, ladders, formwork, and other structures

Required certifications:

    • Working at Heights
    • Worker Health and Safety Awareness (4 Steps)
    • WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
    • Level and Transit Training
    • Total Station Training

Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in commercial concrete formwork: walls, columns, slabs, foundations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
  • Familiarity with Ontario building codes and safety regulations
  • Skilled in working with wood, steel, and concrete
  • Proficient with formwork systems such as PERI, Aluma, and Faresin
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving abilities

Work Environment

  • Surveying involves both field work and office work. When working outside, surveyors must stand for long periods and often walk long distances, kneeling and perform overhead
  • Exposure to all elements of outdoor work (heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, )
  • Physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and repetitive motion
  • Team-based work with coordination across multiple trades
  • Variable hours depending on weather and project needs; overtime may be required
